The water is clear, the sun is out and a good day of spearfishing in Cancun is ahead of us. We start this intermediate trip underwater hunting with a 10-15m area of reef to dive in and Diego brings up a nice 6kg mutton snapper. He was only in the water 5 seconds. I think he can talk to the fish or something.
A few Mackerel and Horse Eye Jack appear but soon vanish into the blue. Diego also lost the fight with big Barracuda too. Lots of fish, good spearos, a good spearfishing guide and a good boat. We have all we need for a day spearfishing Cancun.
We decide to change our location in Cancun. We head to our first shipwreck at around 20m where I watch Diego and Pablo dive down and I see a permit move across me, the bystander is called into action!! A small and a large Permit line up next to each other like the moon eclipsing the sun. I take the shot and come off a little lighter than hoped. My Hollywood shot turns out to be more of a box office blunder! But the permit on my spear puts up one hell of a fight.
We go over the ship again and Pablo hits the biggest permit of his life and he lost it with the spear shaft still in the Permit! Need I say anymore? I and we all feel his pain. Sorry Pablo maybe next time.
We then move to another ship at around 17-18m and I watch Diego go down and miss a Barracuda by inches and as his tip sinks into the wreck then out comes 20 Cudas hiding! They are on red alert and are harder to hit than Muhammad Ali!
We return tired after a good hunt with fresh Snapper and Permit for dinner. A great day spearfishing Cancun had by all!
Hasta pronto in Cancun!
