Once and a while I meet people that get pretty upset that we kill fish. I will not write down the nicknames I have on Cozumel, but there are a few trust me…. So once and while we need to defend ourselves. That´s ok.
We spearfish to get food and to have a good time. We don’t spearfish to sell our fish and we don’t spearfish tons of fishes just to kill. Really. To get a fish on your spear is not that easy. It takes some practice and then still… diving down on a single breath, spotting the right fish, taking the right shot is easier said than done.
I strongly believe spearfishing is the way we should fish in the future. When we shoot a big fish we will not shoot a second big fish and we share the one we shot. So once and a while we ourselves go back to basics as well and wonder why we spearfish… We spearfish to get food and to have great memories.
This picture is from our friend Ben who joined us several times in February. He thinks the same about spearfishing as we do. So when Ben had fish, he was happy and ready to go back on land. He shared a picture of one of his dinners. It´s simple. He worked hard to get some food and enjoyed it later with some tortillas and a beer. It´s like that and how it should be. Provecho!
