It’s beautiful though has poisonous spines. Can you eat them? YES, you can!
At least once a week the SpearfishingToday team eats Lion Fish tacos. Seriously, a very tasteful fish.
We find Lion Fish in very shallow areas (5 ft of water) as well as in deep water (>90ft).
During our Learn to Spear trips Lion Fish is a real favorite to shoot. And serves a good purpose at the same time.
When we dive in deeper areas it is not always possible to take out a Lion Fish. Usually we bring a bigger speargun to deeper areas. And let´s say when you´re cruising on a single breath at 75ft of depth, you are focussed on another type of fish then Lion Fish, jeje. You do that to get a different type of fish than in the shallower parts. When we don´t go out with guests we do practice our freediving and hunting skills. When we dive /train deeper, we do take out Lion Fish then.
This week Carl joined us on a trip and he was a true Lion Fish hunter. We did a couple of unusual spots, depth 30 to 50ft and found pretty big ones. Enough to feed the whole crew.
Carl the Lion Fish King!
