January, out of Mahi Mahi (Dorado) season. We are spearfishing with the 4 J´s, the 2 R´s and myself. A boat full of testosterone. The captain saw some Dorados earlier that morning and we started to dream to get one…. That appeared to become “we got 3″…. This story all happened in less then a minute… But the feeling is that 1 hour of excitement is pumped in that minute…. We all jumped in and while we did not even load our guns I heard someone screaming.. Mahi Mahiiiiiiiiiiiiii…. And at the same time the first J, Junior… loaded a band on his gun and shot a Mahi Mahi… He did not even have to dive for it… Never ever seen a man with such a great positive energy… But no time to think about that… The view of the fishes is fantastic. I load just 1 band and dive down to about 15ft… YEAHHHHHHH….. Got it YEAHHHHHHH. And then while Junior and I were fighting our great catches… 1 of the spears broke… But luckily the spear worked like a slip tip, we wont loose the fish. The second J, JS, shot the 3rd Dorado… Compliments!!! All men extremely excited…. A second spear broke…. these fishes are strong…. woooooow….. Back on the boat… Screaming, dancing and picturetime… Spearing Mahi Mahi on Cozumel is a pretty tough job to do. So days like this are unforgettable. In situations like this it is good we always work with a buddy system. We had to “disappoint” 2 J´s and 2R´s that they were not able to dive at the time the Mahi´s passed by… But all understood what could have happened when all of us dove at the same time with a gun… Safety first….
