Recently we have been pretty busy here in Puerto Rico with trips and I had not been able to get out in the water by myself to just relax, to discover new spots and to get some fish for mrs Tim. When I am with guests I am thinking about them first and my mind is on many things. So…, yesterday, I went out and spearfished the entire day on my own. With a buddy of course, watching me.
So today…just me and the ocean. The day started out great. I got a barracuda, then a schoolmaster snapper, then a yellow tail snapper….just one after the other. Since I have been out with guests recently and I always make sure they have fish to eat first…my fish reserve is depleted…I need fish!
I went in and took a break. Enjoyed the scenery and refocused. My diving was feeling really good today. Hard to beat 🙂
I went back out and got another barracuda, 2 bar jacks, and a Spanish mackerel. I also saw a big school of tarpon…which was amazing…they were huge!
So as you can imagine my stringer is getting full and I have to improvise a way to secure my last fish. I decide to hook it on to the ring that secures the buoy/safety flag that I use. I start working on that and finally get my fish secured and get ready to go to shore…but where’s my buoy?! When I detached the ring…the buoy floated away…and floated away fast!
So now my buoy is leaving me and I cannot go get it because the shaft of the spear is stuck on a rock from my last fish. I have to make a decision!
I decide to take off after the buoy because I figure the gun is not going anywhere and it has lots of line which will make it easy to spot. And of course my buddy and I stay together.
I take off after the buoy and finally track it down… Then I try and retrace my path back to gun…dumb idea. I cannot find it!
Ahhh such a great day could take a serious detour!! So disappointed!!
BUT….I found it eventually 🙂
I go back to shore and meet a very nice young lady and her aunt who offers to help me carry all the fish. Of course they get a couple fish as a tip jaja 🙂
I took some of the fish to Smoke House BBQ in Luquillo and they prepared it beautifully. As you can imagine, I run out of ways to cook fish and I am thrilled to add a whole new weapon to my arsenal! I can’t say enough about how accommodating their staff is. You should definitely try them out. And what I like most of all is how passionate they are about what they do. You can really tell that they enjoy what they do and they take pride in their product…and they should because their food is amazing! Seriously. So good.
