Last fishing day of the year, last trip and last opportunity to close this 2011 with a nice picture of a big catch… During the week I had the chance to catch a beautiful horse eye jack which had been my goal at that time, however, I began to see what would immediately become my new target, and that was the wonderful and amazing Amberjack! I started seeing them more often and really felt attracted to them so I commented it to Leo to which he replied “WE WANT THOSE!” So I really tried to focus on that beautiful beast with the black stripe on his face so characteristic from this fish. It was our second immersion, visibility was about 50 feet… 5, 10, 15 minutes and nothing! I’m already thinking about changing spot when finally I get to see something BIG swimming on my right about 60 feet away from me…by then it was only a big shadow…I started swimming towards it and the shadow became in a fantastic Greater Amberjack!!
I’m trying to get as close as I can very slowly and watching how it reacts to me getting closer and closer… I’m getting soooooooo excited that I can hear my heart beating like crazy! Hoping it won’t notice that haha I decide I’m close enough to dive down… It was swimming around some coral heads not too deep, about 40 feet…PERFECT! I can really take my time to dive down without making any sudden movement and get closer…wow it’s huge and beautiful and doesn’t seem afraid of me.. It is on my target now…pointing…and fire!!!! YESSS got it!!! I swam back to the surface and thought wow that’s was an easy job! didn’t fight at all…well I think the Amberjack heard me saying that and immediately dragged me down and started fighting like a bull! I get to hold him up side down and he starts boxing me with the tail haha. It is a REAL fighter!!! In the meantime my friend Houston dives down trying to hold it wich gives me time to take another gun and dive down to give a second shot… Two shots. That did it we thought. The captain is holding the lines and while getting my fish on the boat haha the captain almost fell into the water…
HAPPY NEW YEAR my friends and buen provecho!!!!
