First Time Spearfishing.
“Traveled to Cozumel on a scuba trip and we had a day between dives. My friend had been Spearfishing with Spearfishing Today in the past and suggested it as a good activity on our off day. I had never thought about Spearfishing before but was game. I had no illusions of grandeur for my first trip. In fact, I thought it would be a good excuse to relax, snorkel around and maybe watch the guides go Spear some fish. Leo, the owner with his guide Pamela and Captain, Anibal created an environment where I not only felt comfortable participating but one where I was eager to dive under and go get fish for myself. They made an otherwise daunting task quite “do-able” and an absolute blast. Not long after entering the water we were both diving under and going after fish. Not having much training holding my breath for extended periods of time, I thought, “no way can I do what Leo is doing, spending 5 min at a time underwater looking into coral formations and swimming with sting rays” but, with a little coaching I was diving 20ft after fish with little effort. We had several shots on Snapper, Barracuda and Trigger Fish. Every time we were about to move locations, I had a difficult time handing back my spear gun because it seemed so quick. I was like, “that was already an hour??” In the end, we came back with a couple of Trigger fish that we took to a local restaurant that prepared an amazing lunch. More than that, we came back with great memories, new friends and an intense hunger to go back to Cozumel and do Spearfishing all over again. Thanks for everything Leo. Look forward to seeing you again soon.”
Excellent as usual.
“3rd time Spearfishing with this guys (2 in Cancun and this one in Cozumel) as usual the service was outstanding. Hanibal was our guide and he did all by the book, safety briefing before the dive and he keep an eye on us all the time. I had some problems to reload my gun and he kindly help me all the time. The water on Cozumel is amazing, and we tried several spots. We end the day with 4 Spanish mackerel and one snapper. I will return to Cozumel Spearfishing with them as soon as I can.”
Honoured Missed Day of trip over a year later.
“The Spearfishing in Cozumel was of course great but my case was unique. I bought a 2 day Spearfishing trip in March 2015. In the evening after day 1 I suffered an injury which prevented me from going out for my 2nd Spearfishing day. Leo said no problem and promised I had 1 day in the ‘bank of Leo’. This month my Cruise stopped in Cozumel and Leo provided me with day 2 of my trip a year and a half later! And I was even taken out all by myself, not even added in to another group already going. Totally honourable, thanks Leo!”
Spearfishing was great. Bring an underwater camera.
“Spearfishing was great! I called Leo and booked a Spearfishing trip for the next morning in Cozumel. He sent a detailed email about how to start the trip. I met guide Anibel and 1 other experienced guest at 9am at the Port. Anibel was very professional and explained everything very well. He did his best to make sure I was taken care of. If you need something just let him know. Water and fresh fruit were included. Our group stopped at three spots. We took 5 Triggerfish, 3 Snapper, 1 Horse-eye jack, and 1 Grouper. I was a first-timer and have little snorkeling experience. At rest, I can hold my breath consistently for 2 minutes and up to 3 minutes. While diving, don’t expect to do the same. A 1 minute dive would probably be good for me. I could reload the speargun, but Anibel usually offered to do it for me. I asked Anibel to take some underwater pictures. He said “Sure, my friend”, but I didn’t have an underwater camera. (I thought maybe he did). I tipped Anibel, but would have tipped BIG for a few underwater Spearfishing pictures. We did snap a few pictures with fish after we were docked at 1:30. I took fish back to the resort in Cozumel to have prepared. This is widely accepted. I hope to come back soon.”
