We love spearfishing in Playa del Carmen / Riviera Maya. So close to our other spearfishing spots like Cozumel, Cancun and Tulum, though so much different. This weekend we went out spearfishing in Playa del Carmen with Jake & Nicole, being here on their honeymoon. First time spearfishing and this is what they Jake wrote me about how to spear a fish…
“If you are going to Playa del Carmen, you got to try spear fishing! I went not expecting to really catch anything and just wanted to say I actually went. I mean, fishing does not mean catching… To my surprise within the first 30 minutes of swimmingI end ed up catching my first fish with a speargun (a nice sized Spanish Mackerel) ! There were fish everywhere, just the swim itself was a good time.
My wife, who also joined us, and let me tell you — it is hard enough getting her to go in water other than a swimming pool because she is afraid of fish, but we dragged her along and she ended up having a great time! It took some convincing to come out with us, but all in all she had a great time spearfishing in Playa del Carmen.
Leo has obviously been doing this for quite some time because just about every time he swam down he had another fish on the end of his spear. Time went by much quicker than it actually was in reality. By the end of the swim we totaled 6 – not gigantic, but decent sized fish. When I got back to the resort (The Royal Playa del Carmen), I was welcomed by the chef and he asked me how I wanted everything prepared. The fish we ate that night for dinner, was so so tasty! It does not get any fresher than this!
Out of the 9 days I was in Playa del Carmen Mexico, spearfishing with Leo and Spearfishingtoday definitely topped the list of things my wife and I did during our stay. Leo and his crew were such genuine people who work hard to show you the best of times.
If you go to Playa del Carmen / Riviera Maya – call Leo and go spearfishing! I highly recommend it!”
