Our spearfishing locations in Mexico are relatively close to each other. Each one has its own character though: on land and in the ocean. Let me share a spearfishing adventure of this week from spearfishing Tulum Mexico. Boys will be boys. Grouper and more Grouper.
On the agenda today a surprise trip with our dear friend, Larry. Over the past few days he went spearfishing with us in Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. Today… the pick up at 6am guaranteed a beautiful view at the sunrise in Tulum at arrival. Larry is a passionate person, he does things with passion, or he doesn’t do them.
We arrived at our secret Tulum spearfishing spot and it was time to get in the water. All geared up, ready to jump in when our captain spoke out loud: “Hey Larry… the only reason why you should come back from this spot without any fish is bad luck.” You can imagine, Larry being pumped more than ever. We don’t believe in luck, haha.
Visibility was great, bottom was visible from the boat. Our secret spot is so beautiful, so calm, so untouched: pure joy. Another unique point of this spot is that with a mild current you drift for about three hours from beginning to end. You can’t see any land, you’re out in the open, but the depth is very comfortable between 35 and 65 feet. Diving in a safe way, beautiful underwater world and today it appears to be Grouper day. At least at 50% of our dives we saw Grouper, Grouper and more Grouper. Curious Groupers. Smart Groupers. BIG Groupers.
After being two hours in the water spearfishing, our captain approached us and asked “Larry, want to take a break?” Are you kidding me, haha? We kept on going. We ended up with one Grouper, one Hogfish and tons of memories. No need to shoot more Grouper, it´s more powerful to shoot what is needed for food, and a little bit more for tomorrow.
Sidenote: If you like to prepare Grouper yoruself, check this out, muy muy rico!
On the way back, Larry could not stop talking about the last hours. Each dive he described, fantastic! “How did you discover this place? I’ve been diving all my life and never have seen something so unspoiled like this. I have never have so many chances on so many good fish. The underwater scenery is better than the Cozumel Marine Park”. THAT Larry is our passion. We love spearfishing Tulum Mexico! Especially as we love to have Grouper for dinner…
