Last time I wrote about us not shooting Nurse Shark.
That does not mean that others think the same.
Six years ago when I just started spearfishing in Cozumel island, I joined a couple of locals every other day. Over here local people are called Cozumeleños. It taught me a lot what to do, but also let me realize me what not to do. It was like an education with good and bad elements in it.
Far before we as SpearfishingToday were into finding the exact knowledge of what is legally possible to shoot for dinner, I relied on knowledge and habits of locals. I assumed that whatever they did was correct.
I witnessed Rays being shot. I witnessed Nurse Sharks being shot and more. All to get dinner on the table.
It was part of my spearfishing eduction. We have good knowledge now what is possible to spear for food and what is not. The rules by law. And we also created our own rules. What we wanna shoot for dinner and what not. Even though it might be possible by law.
