Each fish requires another technique. A Grouper laying in the sand you better approach from the back. A Mutton Snapper you need to turn your back on so it will come to you. We don’t mind shooting a Wahoo in the tail. And a Mahi Mahi you can look straight into the eyes.
We spearfish with people from all over the world. And that is so interesting. The techniques for the fishes are common knowledge among spearos. But did you know that each spearo has his own technique? Inspired by the area they come from?
To give a couple of examples. Of course this is generally speaking, and it is not a judgement of good or bad hunting. So don´t feel offended!
Americans think big! Mexicans go down quickly to get the fish. Italians search every inch of a cave. Greek just lay on the bottom, even with a 6 knot current. South Africans snorkel until they see the big one. Brazilians can´t stop diving. Germans make a dive plan before each dive. And so on.
Spearos hunt with a different spearfishing culture in their backpack, uhhh dive bag.
